Sproodles

Sproodles are a hybrid cross between the English Springer Spaniel and the Poodle. They are sometimes also called Sproodles or Springerdoodles. Here at Catlow, we breed first generation F1 Sproodles (English Springer Spaniel X Miniature Poodle) and F1b Sproodles (English Springer Spaniel X F1 Sproodle).

Our Sproodles mature to be a medium sized dog, around 18” to the shoulders and weighing approximately 19kg. Sproodles generally live from 10 – 15 years and make wonderful, active family pets as they love children and thrive off the attention a family settingprovides. Depending on whether a Sproodle puppy inherits more traits from mum or dad, they will need a good brush 3-4 times a week and, most likely, a regular clip.

As with any young puppy, exercise in the first year or so needs to be regulated and supervised to protect growing joints etc. As adults, Sproodles can be expected to require a good half hour walk daily and, of course mental stimulation through play and interaction with their human family. Giving your   Sproodle sufficient exercise will help to burn off extra energy and reduce unwanted behaviours such as chewing and barking etc.

Having a wider gene pool, as a cross bred puppy rather than a pedigree breed, makes Sproodles a generally healthy dog breed. However they can still be susceptible to ear infections due to their physical build and its recommended to keep a careful eye on your dog’s ears throughout his life. As the Poodle breed has historically suffered with Progressive Retinal Atrophy, which can lead to blindness, all Catlow Poodle and Sproodle stud dogs are genetically tested for PRA and are clear of this disease. This means all Catlow Sproodle puppies will also be free from the threat of PRA.
